Otoplasty in East Paris

Esthetic Surgery Pr Meningaud

Who is otoplasty intended for?

Cosmetic surgery for protruding ears is primarily of interest to children. It is indicated for those who suffer psychologically, professionally or socially from large, protruding or malformed ears.

Ear correction is possible from the age of 7. It’s a psychologically important operation that puts an end to playground taunts. There are two types of malformation, most often associated:

Faulty folding of the anthelix (ear cartilage).

hypertrophy of the concha (central part of the cartilage) with excessive anterior projection of the pinna.

How is the procedure performed?

It is often performed under local anaesthesia or neuroleptanalgesia (potentiated local anaesthesia), with a short hospital stay (less than 24 hours).

The surgeon begins by incising the skin in front of the furrow behind the ear. This clears the cartilage to correct the two possible malformations. The surgeon then reshapes the cartilage. Two techniques are possible: either the surgeon cuts the cartilage in the desired axis of the new fold; or, more often, he weakens it to obtain a harmonious fold.

A bandage is required for the first twelve hours, and the ears may be slightly painful for the first night (sensation of flapping). A simple bandage is worn (especially at night) until the 15th day.

IS THE PROCEDURE COVERED BY SOCIAL SECURITY?

Yes, the current coding is Kc 60. However, in the private sector, many practitioners operate in sector 2, and are therefore entitled to charge higher fees. Depending on the mutual insurance contract taken out, all or part of the excess fees may be reimbursed by the mutual insurance company.

DO I NEED TO REQUEST A PRIOR AGREEMENT?

This is not necessary.

WHO ARE THE MOST QUALIFIED PRACTITIONERS TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE?

All maxillo-facial, plastic and cervico-facial surgeons.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE PRIVATE SURGEON’S FEE?

Around 1,000 euros, but this also depends on the surgeon’s reputation.

HOW LONG DOES THE OPERATION LAST, AND HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT?

The operation lasts from 1 to 2 hours, depending on the anatomical features and the surgeon’s attention to detail. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. A headband must be worn for eight days, then only at night for a further two weeks.
